TV snooker

Just watching some snooker here. Gone through a few changes recently (might have been doing it for some time, not sure) with entrances, entrance music, wound-up crowd and tbh, it's a bit like Pro Wrestling.

Now, there's nothing wrong with that - I know they've suffered in the past with slightly unfair accusations of blandness and a lack of characters on the circuit - but I'm thinking of where they're going with this.

Perhaps costumes instead of dress suits and ties (I miss Ray "Dracula" Reardon)? Tag-team snooker? Snakes in the pockets?

Maybe a rule whereby they have to smoke a joint in between frames?

    Suggestions...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The musical walkouts were good this week, esp. Mark Kings.:D
The rest of the stuff is harmless.
Didn't some new promoter take over,Hearns or something, who's moving it in a new direction.

Same as Darts - adding glitz and glamour...Harmless I suppose.

    My favourite quote of TV ever I think: From Ted Lowe, an old snooker commentator;

"For those of you watching on a black and white set, the pink ball is next to the green."
    :D

It's Snooker, not the West End.

This is in reaction to the players themselves i think. As far as i know, the players thought the previous honchos were ruining the game, it was too boring and fans werent interested anymore.

Remember Darts back not too long ago? None of that stuff, crowd were asked to be quiet when the players were at the oche etc......

Then Hearn started cranking it up in the PDC, walkout music, dancers on the stage, the "Do DoDo Do Do" Chase the Sun chants etc.

Now there's a great atmosphere at the darts and the crowds give it socks.

This is perhaps how they want Snooker to be, but they need to be careful! You can't have fans going nuts during the game etc.

This is kinda my point: Should it remain conservative, or go more theatrical? I know it's a sport, but I get the impression they're trying for it, but scared of going to far.

Case in point: "The Jester from Leicester" - who made that up and why? Is he a comedian? Does he have a harlequin costume (or, if being serious :D then why not a harlequin waistcoat?) Or is just the rhyme (in which case it least make a nickname reflect the guy's personality!)

I think Frada's offline, so we can chill for a bit.

I think if it rhymes it is good aka the "Darling of Dublin" Mr Ken Doherty. We could do with cloning Ronnie O'Suillivan. It is very rare for a sport/game to have someone as talented as him. Snooker always had chracters that made it interesting. You can add a bit of sheen but it will only polish something that is already there, it can't be created from scratch.

Yeah there's some awful "character" creating stuff in there eg "The Outlaw" Joe Swail (a name based solely on him having a similar sounding name to a character in a 1970's Clint Eastwood movie) and nothing to do with Mr.Swail's form with the RUC/PSNI.

    Russian roulette hot ball.
Besides the reds, one of the balls is loaded with explosive......... kinda like my own ones.

I was thinking more along the line of having a random siren go off and then double points for every ball potted in the next 60 seconds; or a some "speed-snooker" but I like these!

Seriously, the fans are probably baulk-ing (sorry!) about the ideas of changing the actual rules.
