Thinking of heading up to Belfast for a new bike. Prices seem to justify the spin.

Has anyone dealt with them, any advice regarding prices, euro/sterling, discounts etc?

Never been to McConvey's, but I have visited Slane Cycles a few times, and buy off them mail-order quite regularly. If they stock what you are looking for, their pricing is very good (many things are cheaper than CRC or Wiggle). You can also often get some better prices in-shop than online

If you are coming to Belfast you should also visit Slane Cycles; fantastic shop, huge range and sound guys to deal with. Check their website.

I've bought a saddle in McConveys but that was it. They stock mostly (exclusively?) Specialized and Giant.

    I was looking at this:

    http://www.mcconveycycles.com/store/product/10602/SPECIALIZED-SECTEUR-ELITE-CHARCOAL-SILVER-LARGE-56CM/

Don't know why but i really fancy Spech. What would Slane have in the same price/product range?

Check out their website (a couple of us posted the link above) - they have quite comprehensive Bianchi and Scott ranges, as well as a number of other brands

Make sure you call before making a special trip, to make sure they have what you want in stock, and can set it up to allow you a try before you turn up

I bought a Specialized Roubaix from McConvey's and delivery was quick. No problems at all with them.

There doesn't seem to be any comparable bike to the Secteur, think I'm going to go with it, don't know why but really fancy it.

think of a secteur myself, reviews coming up good but not sure if i can get time to get to belfas..i'm not sure on the size though, i'm 6'0 so seems that 58cm is what i'd need, but this is extra large in spesh world. Do you mind me asking what height you are for the 56cm?

    cheers

Another vote for Slane Cycles if you are going up. Haven't been in the shop but I've spoken to the guys over the phone while doing some orders over xmas. Very helpful and their prices were better than anywhere else.
Best part was the shipping - they did 24 hour shipping on both orders, even though one was less than 200.

I’ve delt with McConvey cycles. Was in the same situation, the price justified the journey up.
Bought a Specialized Stumpjumper mid last year. Mark was the name of the guy I delt with. Had no problems with them, payment and delivery was fine.

Ordered some Fenwicks FS-1 from them on Monday (very cheap from them at the moment BTW.) I got a dispatched notice from DHL less than an hour after I ordered and it arrived this morning.

I could be wrong, but I think I heard from someone that Staggs in Lucan will match any prices on bikes on the slane cycles website. Maybe give them a bell before making the journey.

If you're heading to Belfast you really have to go to Dave Kanes on the Upper Newtownards Road. There are 2 shops a bike shop and a cycling boutique just a few doors down.
That said Slane's and McConveys are good as well.
Always felt McConvey's was more aimed towards MTB than road cycling (Not a bad thing )

This could be true. Before I bought the Roubaix I mentioned earlier I shopped around locally and Stagg's were €300 cheaper than anyone else (unfortunately they were also €400 dearer than McConvey's though).
