Have had back trouble on and off since last October -

Thought it was fine having rested it pretty much since then. Woke up saturday to play the european but nearly cried as out of nowhere my lower back was very sore.

Decided to give it a go anyways and struggled very badly- couldnt release the club through impact at all.....net result was 220 yard drives and punch shots all day - Enjoyed it nonetheless with 24 points off 11.

Anyways, need to get this damn thing sorted. Can anyone recommend a specialist who understands the demand of playing golf?

    Much appreciated.....

Dr. Pat O'Neill beside the Mater.

He's a sport specialist. Not cheap as its €150 for an appointment, also you might not be able to get an appointment for a while as he can be booked up for weeks in advance.

Make sure you know exactly what your going to say before going in and not.. I've a pain here i think and the odd time this feels funny... The more exact information you can give him (or to any doctor) the better they can pinpoint what’s wrong. You may require an MRI or further examinations or simply nothing at all. Best thing is to get medical attention straight off and not go on mate's advice.

    I'm sure you'll be fine :)

ok, i know a little about back pain because I only got rid of mine 2 months ago. 10 years ago I picked up a small box the wrong way and since then anytime its cold or I'm tired I have to be very careful.

anyway this is the man who fixed my back

    http://www.endorphinreleaseclinics.com/testimonials.htm

its a strange small place next to the Crumlin hospital. There's an air of pseudo science about the place but the fact is that the man fixed my back. He developed his skills because his daughter was in pain and he didn't want her to have surgery.

He was recommended to me by a hard nosed businessman who doesn't mess around, he also noticed the slightly kooky athmosphere but neither of us give a damn if it releases the pain.

You say that you woke up in back pain, this is bad news. I recommend you research and buy the best mattress you can find. For me I have to do a little exercise to build up my back muscles. i find swimming to be ideal.

he charges about 75 euro a session and if you have the kind of pain i had u won't have anything to lose by visiting him.

but waking up in pain suggests to me that you're not taking your health seriously? if it deteriorates to the point that you need surgery it'll be the worst neverending horror to live with.

lying outside subway in airside unable to move was my embarressing wake up call! :o

    good luck!

I am sure many people find the endorphin release clinic very good and they are highly recommended, unfortunately I ended up in a & e after a visit there, may not be connected but didn't take the chance and go back.

I have major problems with my lower back due to a bad car crash, Dr Anthony Collins, Osteopath, Australian trained has sorted me out and kept me on the straight and narrow. He was the Osteopath to the Australian cycling team in the Olympics and has great strengthening and flexibility exercises for golfers. His clinic is in Merrion, up the road from Gleesons, think its called Dublin Spinal clinic, pm me for no if you're interested.

I guess the question is what is causing your back pain, what triggers it? I have just started training with John Kelly http://johnkellygolf.com/mysitecaddy/site3/ we are working on strengthening my lower back to give me a better posture and swing I don't really get back pain that stops me from playing but John says my current swing isn't going to do my back any good.

thanks for all the tips - I strained my back in October and it just a recurrance of that. It happened mid october and I rested it until mid December (when I played a 13 hole comp- it was fine that day).

I have no problems walking around at the moment but if I bend down its very sore. When swinging the club, the backswing is fine but when I try to get through the ball, its very very sore.

Its probably just muscle damage and need lots of rest, but I'd like to go to see someone just to be sure.

Its very frustrating and will probably rest it now until march

Rest is important and so is good medical advice. I also suffer lower back pain/ache. At the end of the day when your back is reasonably pain free it is going to come down to strengthening everything around it for support - abs (crunches - properly executed to protect the back, reverse crunches), bum and hips (get an exercise band - great for this), back (various exercises for this). These are the kind of things that you can do at home morning and evening in very little time. I religiously do these exercises now every day and it's making a difference but it does take time.

There's an american chiropractor in the Leisure Centre in Citywest (think its called The Joint) he's quite good with sports related back injuries

I would have to endorse the Endorphin release clinic as mentioned above. My sister and mum were sorted out for disc problems and sciatica respectively.

Both had tried to get it sorted by other practitioners and even surgery for my sister but eventually got it fully sorted by finally going to ERC.

I don't know the background teaching but replying to this has made me curious enough again that i would like to find out if anybody knows - but i do know that its very very effective as elucidated by all their written testimonials they have as evidence in the clinic.

i've been troubled with a bulging disc/hip dysplasia over the last few years..all due to muscle spasm..i recommend you attend a physio. (http://www.tallaghtphysioclinic.ie/). 2-3 sessions at the physio will loosen up muscles around the area, and allowing the back to move more naturally..you'll also find out if you've damaged a disc. i highly recommend tallaght physio. (avoid a chiropractor, waste of time and money)
