You can use your private address as the business without any problem from tax etc however you could be subject to Health and Safety inspections, you will probably need to show a public liability insuracne policy.
You may also find that your mortgage/rental agreements ban the running of a business.
I don't know where you are living.
I am resident in Dublin running a business and I use a virtual office service purely as a business address to which mail and goods are sent which I pick up and from which I can have goods collected.
I got there 2 or 3 days in the week, if something comes in and it stays more than a day or two they call or email me. Cost € 36.00 pw including VAT well worth it to avoid any of the issues mentioned at the start.

Definitely an option, how ever cost to a new business is everything. If you are starting small probably easiest to operate from home address. Note if you are a limited company you are obliged to have a "business name plate" on display at the registered office, this can be as simple as an A6 or smaller piece of paper in your front window. An issue will arise when you start to grow and need to change address, but that's a headache which you should look forward to. Best of luck.
