Mysterious radio pouch part

Here's one for the gear heads.

I just received this natty bit of kit for to hold my little PMR radio. As well as the buckle, it velcros shut, and to accommodate little radios too there's a length of hook velcro inside and a loop velcro lining on the inside of the front and back, so the length can form a false bottom to hold up a little one, if you see what I mean.

Anyway, part of what came with it was two identical panels with hook on one side and loop on the other, joined by two lengths of cord, maybe a foot in length or a little more. In my new-toy excitement I removed everything without paying attention to how it was when I got it, and now I have no freaking idea what this thing is for.

The fact that both panels are hook on one side and loop on the other means that they sandwich into any existing fastening, but I cannot imagine to what end. It's much too long to be an extra bit of retention, as far as I can figure, and the pouch doesn't have any D-rings for it to tie onto. I'm at a complete loss, moreso because the pouch seems perfectly serviceable without it - it's excellent in fact. Any ideas, anybody?

Here's the (unfortunately tan) part, with my sexy Christmas shirt for good measure.

wrap one of the velcro around your antenna then click it into the button on the pouch

Looks like the one in the picture is elasticated; this one isn't, it's paracord, and since the pouch has a folding-down top flap anyway rather than an open top like the pictured one, there's no need for that kind of carry-on anyway.

The radio's a Motorola XTN, for what it's worth; the pouch is big enough to carry something up to what I'd consider a medium-sized radio so mine will be somewhat swimming in it, but there is a feature already described to whoosh it up a bit.

Ahh right., I dont think ive ever seen them non elasticated., seems a little strange.,

Actually, it's an XTR; I always get those letters confused. Like mobile phones, I wish radios and things would have names instead of numbers and letters. Then again, when Motorola are allowed name stuff they come out with crap like Razr. Jesus, Motorola marketing department - for shame. Tangent ends.

Found this a few years ago when researching camo for some model painting, dude approached it from a hunting PoV but it's a pretty good primer for camo theory

could it be something like this??

It is sort of like that, but there's nowhere on the outside of the lid with velcro for it to attach to, and I still don't know what it might be doing on that one there.

just my train of thought her but could it be for holding the pouch on your arm??
meaning you wrap the cord around your arm and velcro it to the pouch.

iv seen guys with their radios on there arm and they seem quite effective their because they dont have to lower their guns to use them.

Imaginative, but it's far too uncomfortable and awkward-looking for that. This is decent kit, and it'd be easier, more comfortable and more effective to make a simple armband and have the pouch attach to it with PALS loops.

    Nice try though.

It might be for holding the mic around your neck.
