There is an event taking place in a main Irish venue and I am thinking of handing out leaflets outside as the demographic attending totally suits my business. Is this legal? Can the promoters of the event have an enforceable problem with this?

Hiring a stand at the event would cost €1000.....handing out leaflets outside would cost me €200....

Doing the maths it seems to be a good idea

    thanks in advance

If you are worried about it, hire a bunch of kids to do it. Whenever I want to put up posters that could otherwise get me into trouble I pay scummy kids to do it.

People hand out those massive leaflets called 'Metro' and 'Herald AM' each day! Plus, there are people handing out stuff at DART stations. There's is a littering issue with the City Council when the stuff gets dropped - so you should check with them what the story is.

Do you not think your potential customers would ask themselves why this guy doesn't have a stand inside?

Just my opinion, but if I went along to a trade show and some kids handed me a leaflet promoting the services of some company out in the street I would probably have a poor opinion of the business.

The first thought that would enter my head is that these guys obviously haven't much cash, If I gave them my business would they be around in three months to finish the job or contract.

Some business people believe the way to go is to always give the impression you are a success even if you are starting out.

But you would be still liable for the littering, no matter whom hands out the leaflets???

Dont be handing out leaflets in public. The fine is 125 euro per leaflet in Dublin if they are found on the ground. I dont know what the story is outside of Dublin but im sure its something similar.

its something crazy like 10k fine; i'm sure i read that here somewhere.
I did this recently and it does not really work. If you give it to people arriving at the event, they might look at the flyer, but if you hand out yet another flyer after they have been bombarded in the show..no chance of looking at yours! Unless you have some value/enticement attached...i.e present this voucher for a 100 euro off

Not illegal at all. You may be liable for littering however contrary to what a lot of people believe the authorities have to prove that you or persons employed by you dropped the litter.
Case 6 years ago a manager of mine threw a cigarette end out of the car a litter warden tried to do him, he appealed with the argument
    1. Prove the cigarette end is mine (short of DNA testing - how?).
2, Produce evidence/witnesses that I threw it out of the car?
    He heard nothing else.

OP, what about walking around the event handing out your business cards.

They're a lot smaller than a leaflet and much tidier, plus people would put a business card in their pocket before they'd put a leaflet in.

if you are handing our leaflets in a public place in Dublin City Council - you need a new license. If you don get one - they get 'unhappy'
If its in a private area - say a car park or say in the grounds of the RDS - you have to get permission.
As a matter on interest - distributing newspaper is not governed by the new license - but it is by litters etc.

If they name me, theres no Id on the poster.
