Washine Machine Wont empty

I think I may have damaged something in my washing machine. I put on a wash last week and half way through got worried about the water pressure so I decided to add water through the washing powder drawer. The machine washed fine so I did the same when it came to rinse. It rinsed fine and emptied. Now when I put on a wash it will fill and wash ok but wont empty. Its an Electrolux EWN14991W model and a message saying to check the filter comes up. I just opened the filter thing at the bottom of the machine and water gushed out. Would it be likely that pouring too much water in has damaged the pump or something and if I take the back off will I see the pump. I really can't afford to replace this machine. Any help appreciated.

Sounds like it could be something blocking the pump. If you open the pump again and collect the water in something, you should be able to screw out a valve and behind there I'll wager you'll find the problem.
Had this problem a few months back, turned out to be a sim card causing the hassle!

Try this site for the manual to your machine, should be something in there on checking for blockages, plenty on youtube as well!

Hope it works out for ye!

Thank you for your reply Gleep. I removed the filter (collected the water) and couldn't see anything blocking anything. Replaced the part and decided to go for the rinse and it is the same again now - full of water and can't drain. I will leave it for tonight and drain it again in the morning and see if I can see anything blocking.

Are you opening the valve at the bottom of the machine on the front? You'll have to take off the skirting cover, behind this there should be a valve. You should be able to turn this to release a stream of water. When the water has stopped draining, usually you can twist it further and pull it out completly. Put your fingers into the gap and check for blockages.
    Worked for me!

happens to me the whole time.

    usually the girlfriends hair clips

opening up the pump accessible through behind the skirting always solves it for me

its a cap about 3 or 4 inches in diameter. once i had to lift the machine, take out the pump from underneath clean it out and refit

was suprised to see how few components were in the machine

can you rotate the fin inside the pump when you stick your fingers in?
another thing to see is if theres hair wrapped around the fin that you can see easily.
any little thing can stop it spinning. probably designed not to force itself and cause damage

on some washing machines there is a wash and hold button meaning you can leave clothes in water to prevent creasing if you are going out.is this buttton pressed.

No, wash and hold not pressed - dont think there is one on this machine.

I emptied machine again. Took out filter and couldn't find anything blocking it. I got a small brush (babybottle brush) and tried to clean it out too. As a temporary measure I cut a few metres off the garden hose and put it out the door which is working fine.

This is a link to the manual.
Pages 31 and 32 show how to remove debris from the pump/filter.http://dl.owneriq.net/4/4dcdd746-50d4-d3c4-f5b7-5dbc2e7322d1.pdf

Sounds like you are not taking it apart enough to free it up!
It also describes how to empty the machine in an emergency, but that's way too messy, just pull out the machine and hold the outlet hose down below the level of the drum into a basin and gravity will empty the machine!
Let us know how you get on.

I thought I was taking it apart fully but this part:

"Remove any objects from the pump
    impeller by rotating it"

is something I didn't do. I will gave a go at this and see how I get on.

Thank you very much for your help.

Can anyone give me any idea how to rotate the pump impellor. When I take out the filter there is a pipe about 4". Attached to this looks like a rubber tube or hose - I can't see anything like a pump - maybe it is back further - is this ever the case and if this is so is there anything I can do to get to it.

    Many thanks

Hi - I got it sorted. I called out the service man. The pump had to be replaced - he said there was grit and sand in it which could come from washing runners. In the past I have often washed really muddy football gear after kids's matches etc but not recently. I had to pay for the call out but the part was still covered under warranty. The pump in this machine was really difficult to get at - he had to take the drum out. I would try to repair anything before I would put in a call but I would be afraid to take out the drum.

Anyway thank you for your reply.
