Setting up a chipper abroad

    Hey all,

    I am living in Ireland and have a job, but I am really considering setting up my own chipper abroad. I have a business background, but zero experience with fish, burgers and chips, besides eating them of course!

    The reasons behind it are that I used live in the country in question (would rather not say where but think Northerly!) and the late night food on offer there is horrendous, and expensive.

    Anyway, I just wanted to know if there is anyone on here that has set up a chipper, or manages one so that they could tell me of their experiences... Anybody know what kind of turnover and profits they make?

    Main costs are legal fees and equipment at start up, rent, heat and light, insurance and the ingredients!

    It's this a ridiculous idea seeing as I,ve never even worked in a chipper!?

    Yes it is a ridiculous idea as you have not the first clue how to own and operate one, you know none of the pitfalls of the business, and your lack of knowledge/experience makes the chance of succeeding massively reduced.

    HOWEVER, that experience can be gotten if you really want to, go to a busy chipper, speak to the owner and tell him what your doing and that you want experience. Offer to work for him free in his chipper for a set period ie. 2 months, in exchange for him
    ensuring that you get exposure to working all the stations within the chipper and the ordering, prep and dos and donts.

    Then if you really fancy it you are now Infinitely better qualified.

    You may hate the business, better to find that out before you spend 200k + on equipment that you can't return !
