    Yoyo,

Im getting tired of recording a tv show through a live sound mixing desk (LS9) and just having a stereo mix that I cant edit...and put under so much pressure.

I want to have both now, a live mix for the audience and also recorded into protools into my laptop.

Is there a company in Dublin where you can rent a 002 or 3 rack with an extra interface to I can have 16 channels or more? And also a splitter snake because I was looking a prices to hire an active splitter box and was reaaalllyy expensive.

    Cheers!

looked there already but seems they only have the big protools HD yoke that ye have to haul around and try not destroy. Could I just hire a multitrack recorder like the tascam 2488 and just take wav's from that and import PT?

Are you doing live broadcast sound, FOH, or recording? What TV show?

Pro Tools is overkill, and not really reliable enough for that kind of gig. An LE rig is even worse. Two Alesis HD24 (the ones with the 96k option, but run it at 48kHz) in parallel, and a split multi with a desk, is the way to go. Depends on your role how the whole thing is set up, again- live broadcast sound, FOH, or recording? You might need another operator in a separate room.

Edit- there's a guy from Limerick who posts on here, who specialises in this. I think he uses the Mackie multitrack HD boxes.

Can't you get Adat out cards for the LS9 ?

Straight into the Alesis Digitally. Practically no setup either.

The Alesis is a pretty bulletproof machine and cheap as chips.

That's a brilliant idea. Very neat. Only one set of gain controls to do, so no extra operator required. I assume the LS9 can give you 24 pre eq outputs? I've only used it once so I've no idea what the more complex routing facilities are. Cool desk.

I recently multi tracked a gig in the academy 2.
    They have a Yammie m7.
I brought my 16 channel adat card from my 01v96, slotted it in and tracked to logic thru an M-audio profire lightbridge.
    Worked great.
For a permanent solution that won't require an external interface you could get the yamaha mlan card for the desk which will basically transform the desk into a firewire audio interface where you can select up to 16 direct outs from channels or busses straight into a mac or windoze laptop via firewire.
Yamaha desks are designed with your situation in mind.

And your desk level is your recording level, so only one set of meters to keep an eye on.

Show called the G request show on DCTV.

The show is just being recorded and i need to do FOH for the studio audience. So for the past few shows ive been recording whatever my FOH mix is, so basically have to try my best to get a good sound in my phones and in turn the bands cant even hear themsleves properly:rolleyes:

I might give that a go. But ill only be able to hire this stuff for a day because of low budget

Yes , but if I recall rightly the Alesis uses a proprietary format so transfer might have to be real time.

ah right. its not rte or anything so we dont need it to be fantastic. Just need multitrack recordings thats all! if I can get my hands on maybe a 16 ch interface that i can track into ableton and mix on protools later i'd be happy enough with that. And just use a splitter snake

There's a Firewire drive caddy for the Alesis, you slot the drive into it and there's a PC/ Mac program with it to pull the multi off as WAV files. Very fast. Better than the Mackie, where you're forced to use Ethernet.

Both unlikely as Rents I'd guess - but both very affordable.
