    Hi

Have my test next week just wondering about the roundabouts on Tom Bellew Avenue, my instructor is telling me that I need to make more of a circle so closer to the left kerb when going through the roundabouts but I'm also being told by friends that as there is only 1 lane within the rounabout that I am going too close to the kerb and risk skidding in the chippings? opinions anyone?

    Many thanks

I know the roundabouts well! My advice would be to act as if there are (narrow) two lanes. Show the tester that you know to keep left the whole way around, but you don't need to stay so close to the left that you will risk hitting the kerb (automatic grade 3 i.e. fail). I don't think you would skid on the chippings.

The smaller the roundabouts are the harder they are (as you have to do a lot of things at once). Don't fly around them in third gear - make sure you take them slow and easy. Remember to check your mirrors before indicating left to exit the roundabout.

And on Tom Bellew Avenue, there is one roundabout where straight through is actually the first exit (I think it's the 3rd or 4th one if you are driving towards the Marshes). Even though it's the 1st exit, you still have to check your mirrors and indicate left at the 9 o clock position (i.e. where the left hand turn would be if there was one).

Also on Tom Bellew Avenue, they usually ask you to pull in and 'park'. (They can do this anywhere on the test route where there are broken white lines, but this is a common location for it). All you will have to do is park, and then pull out again. When you are pulling out, don't indicate until you are ready to go, as if you cause a car to stop to let you out, you are deemed to be causing an obstruction and may be faulted for it.
