Pioneer Depreciation

    Ok,

Been in the market for about 4 years now and I like to keep my eye on the trading price as it were of Pioneer kit particularly the CDJ's. Now, as we all know the CDJ1000 and 800 were (and are) the industry standard players. They are used by all the big names and are a given in a club / studio install. However again (as some know) Pioneer do heave a premium onto the price tag for the name. There is no denying that Pioneer is amazing kit but like a Ferrari you do pay for the name.

Now, a quick thumb through Gumtree and Adverts reveals a startling amount of CDJ1000's and 800's up for sale. And in most phone calls I've made its because "I'm upgrading to the CDJ900 / 2000 etc"

Every electronic item loses it value at a huge rate from the day its launched but at different rates. But most Pioneer gear holds its value for quite sometime. However, some people that I've dealt with and put cash in front of them have quoted the amount they spent on them (in some cases 5 years ago! ) and they are trying to recoup this value.

So what is everyone's thoughts on what is a fair price to pay for a pair of CDJ's today? Remembering that warranty's run out and the depreciation (given the new Pioneer gear) will be huge in the next 2 years.

    So my take on it:

    CDJ1000 MK1 - €750
    CDJ1000 MK2 - €850
    CDJ1000 MK3 - €1000

    CDJ800 MK1 - €600
    CDJ800 MK2 - €850 (As its basically a CDJ1000 MK2)

    Any thoughts?

Pioneer themselves upped the price of the 1000's and the 400's right before they released the new ones which i thought was shocking and the rise was nearly a 100 quid.

If your looking to buy a set i suppose its a pain in the arse and if your looking to sell after 3-5 years usage you have to be happy.

I thought about selling my 1000s to upgrade and then thought.........**** it

Thats very true. I strictly amn't in the market myself but I do watch the market and if a good deal came up I'd buy them.

However, on the flip side, some new comers to the scene seem to think because CDJ1000's are now "out dated" that they are worthless and make stupid offers.
