A couple of us are headin to Canada on a one year visa but can't decide whether to go to montreal or toronto?

Montreal has the proximity but we don't speak French! will that be a genuine hinderence?

    any advice is appreciated!

Im in Montreal on the year visa mate and although its a really fun place to be the lack of French is a pretty big deal here. I have a job but its only by complete luck, to be bilingual is essential for most jobs. Sorry to sound negative but i would rather be honest! you could get a job in an english call centre....but im sure you know that those are'nt the greatest places to work in, most ppl i know ditched the call centre job. IMO i would stick with toronto but try get up to montreal for visits coz there is loads going on here during the summer. Canada is great though enjoy your year! any other questions feel free to ask!

montréal is the best city in canada in my opinion, but you will need french. however if somehow you can get a job then you could really benefit from a year of living in a non anglophone place.

canada really has some good spots tho, but i would recommend montéal no doubt about it. by the way a lot of people there are of irish descent because you know like french and irish were traditionally catholic.

I visited Montreal for a few days when I was in Boston on my first J1 a few years back and it was an AMAZING place I thought. Something extremely buzzing about the place and the people are great. Oh and THE WOMEN! Oh my god the women, like nothing I had ever seen. Absolute stunner's everywhere you look, makes even the States seem like home :D

Didn't stay long enough to notice the French thing but that makes a good point. Seeing as ye have a year visa though, why not just try move around a bit and visit other places. So many great parts of Canada to visit and I have heard Vancouver is the ****! Good luck and enjoy, am extremely jealous but hoping to get my turn soon!! ;)
