What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

I've just started watching it from the Pilot show and I'm now halfway through series 2, I have to say, it's decent but not a patch on the UK version.

I always associate The Office with David Brent and I just can't get into Steve Carrell (SP?) trying to be the American version of Brent. Even though Gervais and Merchant actually write this, the only thing that the US version has over the UK is that the lass behind the reception is fitter than the one in the UK :p

Anyway, I'll keep watching it and will probably get more into it over the next series or two. Which episodes are the one's to watch out for?

It diverges further from the UK show. I loved from season 2 onwards, watched 2-5 in about 5 days.

The US Office is hilarious . I was a huge fan of the original and now I'm a huge fan of this.

I think the fact that there are a lot more episodes than the UK version allows for better development of the minor characters.

Two of my favourite episodes are "The Convict" where Michael takes on the persona of Prison Mike and "Stress Relief" where Dwight carries out an unannounced fire drill.

However there are hilarious moments in every episode.

Look out for Michael getting dumped as well

My favorite show on T.V at the moment.

The fire drill at the start of one of the episodes is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Love the Dwight character as well.

Really starts to get good from around mid season 2 onwards.

The first season is rubbish as it tries to imitate the UK version and does not succeed. However, after season 2 it develops its own style and IMO is far better than the Brit version, is it actually brilliant and the best american comedy since Seinfeld.

All the American characters are much better than their British equivalent except for Chris 'Finchy' Finch. Ricky Gervais' David Brent is a creep and does not evoke much empathy whereas Steve Carrell is superb as the tragic clown.

I think people write it off very quickly as they assume it will be rubbish cos the original version was so..original..and they assume that americans cant do irony but if you overlook the first season it is absolutely superb!!:)

ps Agreed about the start of the Fire episode, i nearly gave myself a hernia i laughed so hard..pure class

Can anyone tell me what episode was the one where they played the prank on Dwight where they put a nickel into the handset of his office phone everyday, gradually increasing the weight and then one day they took them out and he whacks himself across the head with it when he answers it?

Fill your boots with Jim's pranks

Are you sure we see this? I think if may have been just a list of pranks Michael reads through with Jim and Dwight.
That is in S2 Ep 21 "Conflict Resolution"

Terrific series - I still watch episodes every now and then

Yeah, having done a bit of investigating it seems that that's spot on alright.

I think in the English one Tim glues gareths phone and he sort of smacks it off his head when he tries to pick up, maybe that's what's causing a bit of confusion because I did think I saw the scene originally myself.

Brilliant show that seriously ran out of steam when Steve Carral left. Up until then some of the best TV moments ever.
