....had to get juice today, and drove past 3 stations locally - all at €1.269

Did I miss an invasion, somewhere..........oil is only $82 iirc..........what's going to happen when it hits $125 or more ?

    We've been fugged. Again.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Excise on petrol has been upped several times in the past year or two. And then we got the carbon tax to satisfy the party of idiots. Paid 125.9 yesterday (didn't shop around though)

I stopped doing heavy mileage before Christmas. Used to fill the tank. Put 30 squid in Monday and got 300km...on my old 1100km a week that's a serious difference

Jumped by about 4 to 6c per litre down here in the last 2 weeks. As most of Northern Europe has been suffering from the big freeze for the last month or so I'm guessing that extra demand for fuels has simply driven the price up.

I'm sure there is a bit of profiteering in there somewhere too.

    It's good for business :D

Only disadvantage to running the oil is that its a tad harder to start on a cold morning, but it was still fine even down to -8c like we had there last week.

They also just launched an iPhone app which is fantastic - tells you where the cheapest petrol station is nearest to you, and provides directions!

E85 is now 30c cheaper per litre. As I posted before it's worth experimenting with mixes. 30% E85 works well for me, bringing the overall price of fuel down by about 9c a litre.

What sort of cars can handle E85 safely?

    IIRC the ford econetics?

Also ford are apparently developing an engine that gives the engine a shot of alcohol when needed. E.g. ascending a hill or overtaking.

Read it in an online forum last year I'll try fish out the link

    *Here it is - http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20227105.500-alcohol-makes-autos-more-climatefriendly.html

Nearly any modern car. Officially only flex-fuel tho.
