Been to neither but Burning Man is not something to take lightly. You will need a car in the states for the week and you will need to be able to bring all your provisions for that week in it (including water) as it is in a desert. Also its more of an experience kind of thing rather than some beer and a stage. Look into it a bit more and ask if you can do it (by all accounts the hardship is worth it).

Like toast I have not been to either festival but I have a friend who has been to burning man 6 times. he is always raving abut how much of a great experience it is (will change your life perspective apparently).
You will need transport, probably a winnebego with air con as you wont want to be camping in the desert with 40 degree heat waking you up. you need to buy all your food, water, drink etc with you. once you are on site you cant spend money .... bartering is the way to go from what I have been told. It is not a traditional music festival and I dont think there are line ups of bands and a selection of stages. more a gathering of like minded people, with lots to do and see.

wow, reading that, you would think I had actually been there :D
