Auctions

Inspired by this thread, it occurred to me that surely they couldn't auction a car that has been sabotaged or is otherwise useless, without mentioning that fact?

I've never been to one of these auctions, but wouldn't they say something like "next: a camper van which is in fine condition, driving well", which would oblige them to return your money (or your deposit if you don't pay) if it turns out that the car is ruined?

Or do they simply introduce each car like "item #23, a camper van. Sold as seen. I'm not telling whether the engine even turns over..."? Because then it'd really be a mug's game, with no way to differentiate between a jackpot and a disaster until it's too late.

Personally, in this case, I would have taken the thing after auction and scrutinised the hell out of it, drive it for a good 30 mins, operate every control etc. Maybe have a quick snooze in the beds ;)

If it was easy to sell, it wouldn't be in an auction.

P.S. OP's post moved to new thead rather than bumping an old thread?

By the very nature of the auction, you can very easily end up with a disaster. The jackpots are getting rarer by the day imo with auction prices & retail prices being much closer than they were about 3 years ago. Two many private buyers now. This also leads to greater opportunity to dump a lemon on some unfortunate inexperienced buyer
