Am thinking of putting Commerce down as number 1 on the cao.
Was wondering what the course is like, is there many hours a week?, would you have needed to do buisness for the leaving cert?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated!!

Im currently in first year Commerce. In the first semester I had about 18/19 hours in the week and I have every Friday off both this semester and last semester. You wouldnt need to do Business for the LC, you would get away with out it but it would be help if you did do it (for modules such as Intro for Managment). I didnt do Economics for the LC and TBH I dont find Economics overly hard at all, they started from scratch with Accounting and Economics. There are two Accounting classes, A & B. Ive done Accounting for the LC so Im in class A, and for those who didnt do it go to class B. I know people are finding Accounting difficult because they have never did it for the LC.

Each week we have to do an Economics and Maths assignment (and Accounting assignment every 2 weeks, but there is only about 4). This consist of a number of questions to do online. TBH they are very easy. Last semester we had to do a Project for MIS and currently I am doing an Accounting Project. There will be another Project I will have to do for MIS this Semester. I know people doing other courses such as Arts and Science are surprised by our work load but none of it is overly difficult and I enjoy it, as it keeps things fresh in your mind each week.

At Christmas we only had one exam and that was Intro to Management (which was our overall grade for the year) . It wasnt difficult at all especially if you did Business. We also had an in class test for Accounting which was a percentage of our overall grade for the year. We may of have a bit more work to do each week compared to other courses but you get every Friday off and the 1 exam at Christmas so I think we have it easier. :D

All-in-all, I love the course and I would recommend it to anyone who has a love for business but is not sure what area to go into after you graduate. There are so many things you can go into and First Year should give you a good idea what you want to do.
