Recently bought a HP laptop but I can't seem to adjust the sound. There is a touch sound adjuster above the keyboard but it won't move

Do you have windows? Can you not use the volume control next to the clock on the taskbar?

Yeah it is but thats not really the point one of the main reasons why I choose to buy to buy this laptop because of the ease of adjusting the sound!

    Which model is it?
I have an ould dv series here infront of me and the sound controls are very intuitive. You can run your finger up and down the slide control or just hit +/- on the quick launch bar.
    Very well designed actually.

Does the mute control work? It goes red when muted, then back to blue.
Do you hear that little beep when you press the control even if it isn't changing the volume?
That control only works on the main volume control. I've noticed it doesn't work if you have that second volume control next to the clock turned down, "wave" or whatever.
    Is it a vista laptop?
I upgraded mine back to vista after about a week and have never had problems with the sound control.
Now the screen, battery, mic, webcam, lots of other stuff went south but the volume control never let me down.

Sorry I just meant for XP controls. Don't think that applies to winx7.

Is this problem something to do with the Realtek sound drivers and audio manager?

Was it bought new, or has a previous owner lost a few files? I've a DV6 and bought it a couple of years ago.

I got the laptop new at christmas but I spilled water on it but it was repaired , a new hard-drive was put in

Water:eek: It's possible that the problem is something to do with this, or perhaps it wasn't connected properly when it was put back together.

If you paid someone to fix it, then you should let them know that it isn't fixed.

If you go to the HP site, you should be able to download the repair/parts manual for your particular model and get a few more clues from the various photos etc...

Is there a button on the keyboard that I have to press to enable the sound bar?

It should load automatically. Do all of the other controls work along the strip? I presume that there are blue lights etc?

The volume strip is light up but the wireless light isin't on.

Exactly which model is it? My wireless light/switch isn't anywhere near the volume control - it's on the edge of the case in front of the keyboard.

Have you spoken with the repairer?
