With all the do-goodery and save the world types about the place these days, why do things seem to get worse as the years pass and not better?

Because saving the world means killing all the humans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,485 ✭✭✭Archeron

Because unlike yesteryear, the moment a natural disaster strikes you have reporters from all over the world surveying the damage and showing us the highly emotional human cost, then broadcasting it to you 24 hours a day through every medium imaginable in a competition for ratings.

There was a report on traffic on the M50 on RTE news the other night and they made it sound like the world would end because there was a tailback at the Red Cow.

Check the "if you found 20,000 Euro would you keep it or return it" thread for the answer tbh.

Then add on all the scumbags who don't exactly frequent boards.

Maybe it's only getting worst from the perspective of the do-baddery and feck the world types?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,560 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

The more people on the planet near possible natural disaster zones = more misery. Too many people.

who'd have thought that political correctness, the do-gooders' weapon of choice would fail?

Well OP, I understand where you are coming from totally with that question. Unfortunately, you wont get the answers you want here, even tough its the most popular forum.

Check out this thread I started way back if you are interested in hearing what I have to say:

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055706843

In a nutshell, the world is a big ego. The reason the world is getting worse is because people are thinking too much... more than ever. People need to start using their minds just for what it is ... a tool. As people think the less creative they become... even Einstein admitted this was the case.

Our generation actually has it pretty good. Sure if we were born a 100 years ago, a lot of us would probably be fighting some damnable pointless war or dead from what is today an easy to cure disease.

Its cool to have an opinion on everything these days and be idealistic,Trouble for most people is that when it comes to getting their finger out of their ass's and go and do something they decide its better for them just to talk about it,Unless you are mega wealty like Bill Gates or bono and you do decide to do something.
These guys are so rich it makes them feel uncomfortable, Seeing such poverty and devastation that they urge the masses to do something,So we talk and give a little but our own life's are more important to us so we remain idealistic.

Sorry, but that's a big opinion also.

Idealistic is good, but it needs so hop on to the next stone, whichmore and more people are doing these days.

The real crisis in the world today is consciousness... people are not aware of its presence and this gives rise to more division. Until people see human suffering as part of their own suffering, the world will never be the utopia that we all so desperately chase in our imagination.

...because unlike a computer systems based on binary previous input programmed replys/answers of positives and negatives, we are human and there are many more variables which we spew forth in fumbling attempts to achieve a correct outcome while intermingling those results on an emotional level too.

Short answer, we're prone to be stupid by our natural nature and mental characteristics.

True. Things are a whole lot worse since the Dark Ages.

I know what you mean but this point is rarely explained properly so that people can understand it.

Thats a simplistic way of looking at it,we are all a hell of a lot smarter now,you cant just something like that.

The opening post is also very simplistic. It's just an excuse to sock it to those... liberals!!!

I know what you mean... people will go to mass and listen to the same old story over and over and still not understand it. Yet when one trys to explain this simple message like I did above, to a normal person you get ostracized

There may be similarities but I dont follow Buddhism altough I have great respect for spiritual teachings. I'm mostly an admirer of Jiddu Krishnamurti's seminars.

Precisely. Back then you only had to worry about the tiniest of wounds killing you because of a lack of any real medical knowledge, being set upon by bandits, conscripted into a military force with no training or equipment (beyond what you could provide yourself), the Black Death, the Plague, very real and endemic privation, exposure, rape and pillage by aforementioned peasant armies, accusations of heresy, accusations of witchcraft...

Now? Well now you have to worry about...hmm...tv license inspectors? Ghastly, isn't it.

Well leaving aside natural disaters such as Hati were millions of ordinary people donate what they can to aliviate the suffering of millions of others what else can be done ? We are a helluva lot smater yes but it's the people who have the power , politics and politicians , what call the shots at the end of the day , always has being like that so nothing ever changes really .
