    Hi hows it going?

Im a bricklayer by trade and I am finding it very hard to find any work, in the construction industry, basically beacuse the industry is on its knees.

I have also applied for jobs in warehouses, shops everything really and still no joy, and for the sake of my bank balance and more importantly my sanity im going to go and register with a recruitment agency on monday morning.

I have looked through the thread about these agencies and know a couple of people who have gone through these places aswell and have heard some horror stories, some I am just looking for advice on which ones would be the bet ones for me to go to? And maybe the best ones for me to avoid?

    Thanks in advance, :)

Avoid CPL, they are making the most out of people desperate for work now.

I am still looking myself, but my best experience has been with HCC.ie. Padraig is the guy running this agency and I found him to be an excellent communicator.

That said the best route for a job is by cutting out the agencies. I have started searching Irishjobs.ie and indeed.ie for employer advertised roles. The logic behind this is that companies do not wish to pay ridiculous fees and therefore anyone they can hire for zero or close to zero cost is the preferred option.

I have been looking and applying for nearly 6 months now and the major frustration is how companies fail to respond to applications. However this is probably because of the volumes they are suffering.

Chin up, it has to get better sometime.

Although this is true for the most part, you can only work in some companies through agencies. For example, you will be getting paid by a certain large agency if you were doing tech support in a large american company. X american company gives Y agency a lump sum, as it works out cheaper for the company. I agree with Dravokivich that CPL are taking advantage of the economic situation, but principles are no good if you loose. In saying that, CPL are miles better than Manpower, IME & IMO.

Actually, I believe Y agency has it's fingers in many pies companies, and the only way in is through them. Could be worse.

Personally speaking I'd much rather go directly to the employers, but it seems most of the bigger ones only advertise/deal through agencies? :(

I've had some recent dealings with CPL and can't say I was too impressed. Very hard to get a reply out of and they invited me to an interview with them for a job that I clearly wasn't suitable for - the employer specifically wanted a different industry background than I have - and I've heard nothing from them since.
