South African wants visa-free Europe holiday. Any ideas?

My other half and I LOVE to travel, and are always on the go.

One problem, though - he has a South African passport and each time we want to travel to Europe it's a nightmare having to go up to embassies in Dublin for visas and take extra days off work (ultimately leaving us with less holiday days, which really defeats the purpose!).

No issues with Australia, US, Africa, etc since all those visas are available online. And we do take advantage of this.

We moved here from Cape Town with the express purpose of travelling cheaply to Europe to visit friends and family. Have only managed two trips in 3 years (not counting the UK, which wasn't a problem - until recently, anyway).

Does any have any ideas where we can go in Europe that does NOT require a trip to a Dublin embassy? Nothing particular we're looking for - just a new place to tick off the list.

    Thanks in advance...

With a South African passport you're going to need a Schengen Visa, I can't see any way around it (trust me, I've tried).

I know it's not what you want but, I have to travel all over Europe a lot for work, best place to get a Schengen is the Dutch Embassy. It's really quick and they turn them around in under a week.

Take a weekend break to Amsterdam, then go back to the Embassy and apply for a multiple re-entry Visa. Worked well for me. (They won't give you multiple re-entry the first time).

Once you have the Dutch Visa, being a Schengen state, you can pretty much go anywhere in the EU (besides the UK which is now a Visa required country for a South African passport  )

    Thanks, Mena.

Have applied for multiple reentry visas in the first instance (which are always declined) but have never gone back to that embassy after a trip to apply. Good idea, thanks!

Have only dealt with the Belgian and French embassies thus far (an ordeal - they couldn't have been more unhelpful!), so will definitely give the Dutch a go.

I've dealt with a fair few, and now always go back to the Dutch and end up flying through Schipol to get anywhere :D

Hopefully they are as helpful to you as they have been for me.
