Percentage of real jobs on irishjobs.ie?

    Anyone have any idea as to what percentage of jobs on this site are real?

    Seems to be so many generic positions with next to no detail that I'm assuming a vast majority of them are simply CV harvesting?

    It's hard to tell.

    There are three basic types of agency adverts:
    1. Finding people on behalf of an employer (authorised), e.g. a recruiter who has been hired by Microsoft to hire their temp staff.
    2. Finding people on behalf of an employer (unauthorised), e.g. a recruiter who has copy-and-pasted a job spec from an employers website in the hope they get some CVs they can fire off to the employer.
    3. CV harvesting, which may be used in 1 and 2 above, or may be for no job in particular

    And then of course, the recruiter might place multiple adverts for the same job online, or there may be multiple recruiters competing for the same job (i.e. multiple recruiters doing number 2 above, possibly with many different versions of the same job spec!)

    In my own experience, most recruiters are doing numbers 2 and 3 above.

    But as it's near impossible to tell (unless you know the agency and know they are shite) you really don't have much choice but to send them your CV and hope for the best.

    excellent question / thread I have to say. I have totally lost all trust in irish recruitment agents from the amount of bogus listings up on irishjobs.ie.

    I would hazard a guess that less than 30% of the jobs are real. It depends on which category you are looking at. In some instances, I'd say as low as only 15% are genuine. Maybe I'm cynical. But I met with a guy one time (Paragon cowboys) and he admitted there and then that the job never existed, they just wanted to meet with candidates with that particular skills set.

    I'd guesstimate that on most job sites with agency jobs allowed only 10% are genuine. After a while you start to get a feel for it.

    I would guesstimate that the percentage of real jobs is between 3% and 5%. If you look at the content of the jobs, it is pretty clear that most of the jobs are agencies fishing for CVs.

    What I like about that site is you can filter by employer so you take out all the agency jobs.
    If you have an idea of the employers you'd like to apply to, you can check their vacancies

    Realy, it's the only recruitment website I've ever used.

    As said above filter out all the agency ads, they're not even worth considering. A good tip is not to use the location filter, it doesnt work properly and you'll miss out on a good few jobs if you use it.

    I don't know if things have changed in the last year or so, but there were a good few companies out there who don't advertise directly - at least on job sites.

    Have been told same by an agency friend (one of the good guys!) - She said approx 70% of jobs are not being advertised as companies are getting enough CVs in on spec! :eek:

    Most arent using agencies to cut costs and as smcgiff says they just dont need to.If you want to use agencies then contact them directly, the ad's on irish jobs and other sites are pure fantasy most of the time.

    I had the misfortune of being the hiring manager for a new position starting in the new year.

    I spent most of Sep/Oct on the phone telling recruitment agencies to read the jd on the website where it said in BIG BOLD LETTERS that we weren't accepting candidates from agencies.

    This didn't stop them ringing weekly or bombarding my inbox. The cheekiest even copied and pasted the JD and advertised it on another website.

    My advice to anyone using these sites is - if you see and employer advertising the same job as a recruitment agency always always always go direct to the employer. I must have deleted 200 c.v's that came to me via agencies.

    The best method of finding "real jobs" is to sit down with the phone book or a business directory and look up the sector you want to work in ie banks, accountancy practices etc. and go directly to the the career sections of their websites and apply from there.
