    Hi,

i am looking at putting our tv over a glass fronted gas studio fire
each differant place i have asked has said soemthing differant about
if it can be done or not.

The TV will be recessed into the false chimney breast, some people have said its no problem others say it cant be done?

can anyone clarify? also can a twin walled flue have 90 degress bends?
i need to come off the top of the unit 1m, then get over 1.5m and then up and out the roof, 5m approx.
can anyone give me some advice

    thanks
    Rob

You need to carefully read the technical - not sales - manual of the model of the fire you are looking to buy . It should give very clear advice on minimum distances required to separate not only the tv but timber skirting boards or for that matter anything combustible from the fire including floor finishes. If you don't get this advice explicitly clearly spelled out for you - look for another product which does

Do not construct the false fire breast using timber framework use either

    1. blockwork or
    2. metal studworks - which must be plasterboard lined not only on the visible face but on the concealed face too . And fill the cavity of the studwork with Rockwool , not fibreglass ( which melts in case of fire )

thanks for the feed back sinnerboy, yeah i knew the studs must be steel
but ill make sure to plaster both sides.

ill have to get the tech manuals for the fire im looking at, i was thinking
we coulf put in a stone mantle over it which would deflect the heat and
also line the plasted board at the back for the tell with rigid insulation.

The concealed surfaces MUST be resistant to surface spread of flame . Dont line with rigid insulation

each to their own, but unless the tv is opposite a bar stool and tall round table, i prefer it to be eye level off the couch, if not lower . .

if its plasma like mine, u cant put it on the wall. . .
