they really are a bit tedious aren't they?

example: i actually read this the other day:

'i've never listened to his music. still, i'm absolutely gutted at this news'

why? you've never heard his music. why the **** does it matter? thousands of people lost their lives in an earthquake...feel sorry for them if you're going to feel sorry for someone who you have NO relation to. innit

I feel sorry for most people that have died. Your point?

I'd think the OP is talking about bandwagons really, that people who had absolutely no interest in a person when they were alive somehow become interested in what is at the fore and is current within society.
But that if that person hadn't died, the bandwagon people would most likely have never some across them at all.

I sometimes frequent imdb.com as I am a big fan of film and when Natasha Richardson died vast numbers of people were blurting out the most outrageous comments about how they were broken up about it on her page. Weird thing is that before she died nobody had posted a single message about her in months.

exactly, well said. if you're getting cut up about the death of someone you don't have any knowledge of or relation to, it's a worrying sign

Exactly. I wonder if Kurt Cobain would be such an "icon" today should he not have decided to blow half his head off. Love how his "legacy" is being kept alive by kids today who probably weren't born when Nevermind came out.

I didn't read this thread or know much about the OP, but it's sad to see a thread like this die so soon.

I was sure that this said Celebrity Death Threats when I clicked in and I was all ready to tell the story about the time Brendan O'Connor sent me a fish in the post.

    Alas, tis not.

True, it's same with Beethoven, it's like 'dude, you weren't even nearly alive when he was churning out those symphonies, move on, put some Lady Gaga on.'

I have yet to see a 14 year old kid wearing a hoodie 2 sizes too big with Beethovens face on it.

Unfortunately I'm sure lots of them did.

No jokes. I'm still trying to get my head around the sheer magnitude of the destruction.

Dave Grohl is still doing well tho, isn't he? but the fact that he's dead makes him safe. He can't do anything to disappoint - see also, Hendrix, Jimmy ; Morrisson, James Douglas ; Lennon, John Winston, etc. None of those guys are ever gonna release a crappy album or refuse an autograph!

I was there when it was just about the writing man, now it's got all scene and the kids are losing touch with what the whole thing is really about.
It's just become too commercial, I can't be associated with that kind of capitalism.

I know 2pac has nearly released more albums after dying than when he was alive.

I think celebrities who were really talented and achieved a lot deserve to be lauded A good example is Michael Jackson.

Some people don't deserve it though. I'll probably be crucified for saying this but it thought the hoopla around Jade Goodys death was really OTT. While i felt sorry for her given that she died young and had kids i dont think she merited all the attention.
