There actuly not a bad set myself and Andy g bought a a pack last year we use them at hrta and Gtac in galway ,
run on recharageable batterys or 3 AAA's sound is always good and work over a decent ranges without any loss of signals ,
    Affordable
    reliable
    easy to use

not a lot more i can say really

and if your working on a strict budget aldi have regular deals on handsets that seem to be ok

can i add a small suggestion..whatever you get make sure its compatible with the bigger manufacturers with the headset jack. at least then later on you can add all the cool mic booms and headsets with little difficulty.

At the risk of hijacking this thread: can you give any recommendations for walkie-talkies that are good value and can take something like this PTT?

    The options are:
    - Icom 2 pins
    - Kenwood 2 pins
    - Motorola 1 pin
    - Motorola 2 pin
    - Yaesu version

(Go easy on me. I know nothing about walkie-talkies! :D)

Motorola XTR radio's can be picked up in pairs for 80 quid. its the best performing radio ive used without it being a pro spec one like the XTN's etc. it takes a standard 2-5mm jack and there are a rake of chinese headsets available from the bowman, calvalvy's etc, and you can select the type of PTT, that one you linked is a pain in the face to find without looking away from your gun, (ive been using that one for a year or so), Go for the one with the big round button, its a lot easier to find when ya need it.,

    Ah, thanks for the info.

So if I were to get the "button" one which jack should I get? 1 pin Motorola? Or will one of these "military standard plugs" go straight in?

XTR accepts only Motorola 1 pin, others may work but just to be sure of happiness go for the one it's known to work with.

big +1 on the big round button ones, picked up a few for the lads and they where so easey to use, you could even use the butt of the AEG to hit them

can't say enough good things about 'em

Thanks for the help, guys. :)

Final question for now: what about the walkies in OP's post? Any idea what they take? It seems like a very good deal to me...

guessing a motorolla single pin not 100% sure though, can't really see enough detail on headsets, have a look hers says this one will fit both so think a motoralla single pin will work http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTORCYCLE-HEADSET-F-F-MOTOROLA-COBRA-SINGLE-PIN_W0QQitemZ390084813985QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ConsumerElectronics_SpecialistRadioEquipment_SM?hash=item5ad2dde4a1
