Just a couple of days before the Haiti heartquake my wife and I booked a 2-weeks holiday to Dominican Republic....we are planning to rent a car, travel around, visit the country, simply enjoy ourself...the problem is, I am not much in the mood anymore! I just feel so sick in the stomach when I watch the news and see what the poor people in Haiti are going through and thinking of going to have fun just a few miles away of million of people suffering makes me feel really bad. I remember watching on tv people travelling to Thailand just after the Tsunami disaster and thought I could never do that, even if they gave me a free holiday for months....

Now the holiday cannot be changed with another destination, and my wife really wants to go as we haven't had a holiday for long time....I want to but I really don't see how can I relax or have a good time....I am also a bit concerned about safety if we want to travel around. I wish we could just cancel this holiday and do it another time :(

Watching the news while a write and feel worse and worse....feel even sick thinking about having a "holiday problem" when people there are dealing with real issues :(

Not sure this is the proper section....maybe should go on PI. Don't even know what I want to achieve with this, probably just want to get it out my chest.

Some lateral thinking is required. Did anybody really not enjoy their Christmas dinners over those Concern ads? I don't mean to sound insensitive, just saying that we all overlook tragedies near and far.

There's a difference though with the folks who travelled to Thailand and you travelling to DR: Many of those going to Thailand were actually going to areas affected.

I'm not aware of DR being badly hit by this earthquake and it's curious that they seem to have escaped it.. If it is, you could follow the example of many who did travel to areas affected immediately after the tsunami and lend a hand while you're there.

I stumbled upon this article this morning which you might find of interest: http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com/city/article/921229

I agree with previous poster. Maybe if you get involved in some way in fundraising for Haiti you won't feel so bad about going on hols.

thank you all for your responses! I have decided I will make a donation for sure! Then see if there is anything I can do while in Dom. Rep.
