Strange RTE report on new Criminal Court Buildings

On Tuesday, RTE reported that with the opening of the new courts mega complex in Dublin, defendants would no longer be filmed going in and out of the court entrance.

However, every day since they have shown a defendant leaving the new building with about twenty camera people and photographers running around them.

Just wondering why RTE thought that this would be the case or did I misinterpret the report?

Strange, wonder does it have anything to do with this article from Tuesday's Irish Times?

Or maybe it is for prisoners who are on remand who wont be seen going in?

its prisoners in custody cannot be photographed.... thats all that's new about the CCJ.

people on bail and witnesses ...will still be photographed.

(well... have heard that some of the prison vans dont actually fit so some prisoners might be photographed...I havent confirmed this yet)

Actually, I gathered from the report that once convicted, prisoners will be transferred to prison custody inside the complex so we won't see them being led outside to the prison vans.

However, RTE gave me the impression that we wouldn't see anyone leaving the court because they ended with: "Gardai will not be supplying mugshots to the media".

But defendants on trial are usually free to leave the court each day so we will still get to see what they look like, unless there's an underground car-park that hasn't come into operation yet. (Locals were calling Joe to complain about the Gardai parking on the street outside and asking why there isn't adequate parking within the building)

its amazing how this wasnt an issue when they were doing the same outside the Four Courts (when criminal cases were being held there) .... gardai were parking in taxi bays, loading bays, on double yellows, on footpaths and in normal parking spaces.

from what I saw at the CCJ, gardai were parking on double yellows/footpaths and in parking areas reserved for taxi pickups.... I was up there on Monday - I will point out that I DIDNT see any garda cars parked on a disabled space.

I vaguely remember a case involving some high knob politician being taken out of the four courts in cuffs and the Guards did everything to obstruct the media. cant for the life of me remember who it was though.
