    Hi,

Heading over to Ryder Cup ater this year, so looking around for some good golf courses to play.

Anyone been over before that can recommend any good courses they hae played, as trying to get trip sorted out before prices spiral out of control?

Off top of my head Royal Porthcawl is a fantastic mainly links course, I really enjoy Pyle and Kenfig as well though is a long time since I have played there.
Southerndown is another cracker in my opinion.

These are all within about 45mins of Newport.

If your driving over then I would recommend Pennard which is just west of Swansea - great links course

Just looked and all above are pretty much links or heathland courses so hope you like that style

St Pierre is an ok option though I think is a bit expensive

I'd recommend Carmarthen with whom we're twinned. Fantastic bunch of lads and ladies (and good singers ;)). The food in the clubhouse is second to none and the course is in great condition and is a true challenge and not expensive. Darren Griffiths (son of Terry the snooker player) is the Director of Golf there and he's a very nice guy to deal with. Enjoy!

Hey 'scorthy, I'm a scorthy man myself and thinking of heading over to Carmarthen with some mates for a weekend in the summer, looks like a lovely town and a very nice course.

We were thinking of taking the ferry from Rosslare to Fishguard as it's only an hour drives from there. Did you do this and how did you manage it logistically? there'll be probably 4 of us and so I'd imagine taking 2 cars to cover all the gear.

Any recommendations of where to stay, things to do over there? Would like to keep the extra costs to a minimum also.

On our last trip we first stayed at New Port Links; it's a lovely clean place with chalets/restaraunt. So chance of resting after the trip or playing the course and then resting. Highly recommended. We (large group) stayed in the Ivy Bush Hotel which is a fair trip to the course - up mountain and dale - well that's Wales for ye. But the effort is well worth the visit. Mention you're from Enniscorthy to Darren Grittiths (son of the snooker player), Director of Golf there ;);). Like our climate, don't expect good weather. It's a bit like our west coast - you start your round in glorious sunshine and you come in wondering how your going to get your gear dry by tomorrow!
