Right So im strongly considering changing my 04 kia sorento for something a bit bigger / more powerful , and im looking for suggestions, id have about 16 grand to play with and am looking in the 04-07 year range ,

only rules are , has to be commercial or on uk plates (ill commercialise it myself) , has to be automatic and full spec (alloys, leather, aircon/climate control, electric heated seats etc) , has to be diesel and above 160bhp (or above 2.5L)

    im currently considering the following

    BMW X5
    Toyota Hilux
    Isuzu D-Max
Toyota Landcruiser (would consider the 4.2TD amazon if the price was right)
    Mitsubishi Shogun (LWB)
    Nissan Patrol GR

anyone got any other suggestions ? or reccomendations of whats best out of my list of vehicles

X5 is in A different league to any of those to be honest. Whatever you do buy something with simple electrics:D

What about a navara though? Some of those have huge spec

true , I really like the interior of the X5 and its a lot more of a big car than an offroad beast, only thing that i dont like about them is the horribly high mileage all the UK ones seem to have

yeah id consider a d40 navara, must look in the UK for one of those (people buying cars (especially commercials) here seem to be afraid of optional extras)

i recently bought the 3.0 d4d landcruiser, love it, great seating position which suits me cause i had back problems previously. great power, easy run, great in the snow and ice too

UK Navara doesn't meet Irish commercial specifications for the €50 VRT - would come in at 13.3% VRT. Uprated suspension for ROI bring the GVW to 3,450kg.

Irish Isuzu D-Max are the same, UK version would get hit for 13.3% VRT. Might be some Cobra versions around which are fully specced, but not sure if there would be many auto's.

Lancruiser seems to be the best beast by all accounts. Maybe a Discovery TDV6?

Heated Leather seats could be retro fitted for under €1,000 so I wouldn't rule out those with cloth interior if the price was right.

Well, we have a 08 RR Sport in at the minute (Same engine) and that needs almost €20,000 worth of work done to it to make it driveable again. Hopefully its all under warranty, because I dont fancy replacing the engine ourselves.

On that basis, i'd steer well clear of the Land Rover.

The Landcruiser or the X5 gets my vote.

The Patrol was a reliable machine too - just ask the Defense Forces.
