    Gears 16-20
    Number of Gears 19

    wtf

sounds like it will do your needs just fine.
If anything you could spend alot less for your needs

Cassette is 11-32 by the Boardman website with a compact chainset - would be fast enough and still be able for the steep stuff.

OP - one question - why don't you get a road bike? You can ride the tops or hoods and if you ever want to use the drops they're there too (plus you dont end up posting asking about a bar & shifter conversion to road units in 6 months time)

    +1

You can get this for a lot less. It's got room for mudguards and panniers (most road bikes don't) or if you want a really good bike there's this.
