How to take off stunt bars from BMX?

Hi,

I would really appreciate if someone can please tell me how to take off stunt bars from a BMX?

These are the things that are added onto the sides of the wheels that allow you to stand on middle of wheels to do stunts (hope this makes sense).

I have a feeling a special tol is required and if so can you also tell me where to buy a cheap one as i'd rather do this myself than get fleeced from my local bike shop who charges Celtic Tiger prices

You just need a socket set. Maybe it has to be a long socket (which is deeper than a regular one) to give you the clearance over the axle.

I took them off my kid's bikes a couple of years back. It's only a couple of minutes job.

I saw a socket in Halfords and it was €39 :eek:

Does anyone know a cheap place to find sockets? (if not ill borrow one from the brotherinlaw.

Bring it back to where ya bought it and ask them to remove them.

Cheap and simple.

Or ask the brother in law (if it's not a new bike).

In fairness, I can't imagine any bike shop charging much for this as it's such a simple job. Have you asked them ? For the money they should charge, it's probably not going to be worth the hassle of either buying or borrowing the tools.

The bike is 5yrs old but paid top dollar for it (approx. €380)
