I just moved from a 720p tv to 1080p - I have the LIFE bluray, and was hoping to see some true 1080p for the first time, however the PS3 only seems to play it in 1080i/720p!?!? I've been messing about with the settings but it always seems to revert from p to 1080i when i start the BR - any help?

I read on an amazon review that the life boxset isnt actually 1080p (even though it says so on the box, it's in fact 1080i). Try another disc and it'll probably come up as 1080p

AFAIK, Life on Blu-Ray is in 1080i, the same as Planet Earth series.

The box is wrongly marked. Even my tv goes to 1080p when I watch it. Read this

ummmm can you even tell the difference??

doubt it, would be hard to see to be honest at a decent watching distance away from the TV. When you put a a game in does that say 1080p I'm fairly sure my Samsung does.

I've noticed while watching blue ray discs that sometimes the picture is beautifully crystal clear and at other times It's downright shoddy.Playing them through the PS3 with a bloody expensive monster cable on a sony bravia.Any thoughts.

My honest thought is that you really should not have bought that cable. (this is not a smart arse comment)

Also depends on what movies you are watching

Could you be a little more specific please whats wrong with the cable.
And also in regards to the movies the quality doesn't just vary from disc to disc but sometimes from scene to scene.Actually now that I've just written that,it has occured to me that it could be the laser in the PS3.What do you think?

A €5 cable will work as well as a monster cable.

It's akin to saying "Sometimes my car feels unresponsive when changing gears, I've got some bloody expensive racing stripes on it also"

Those cables are known to be a complete scam and don't improve picture quality at all.

In relation to your problem, when exactly does the picture look shoddy? For relatively still, panning images there is no real noticeable difference between 1080i and 1080p, but for fast moving sequences (sports matches, action movie sequences... etc) the quality of the image in 1080i will degrade

You have too much money on your hands. Can I have some?

It could depend on the disc if its only noticeable with some of them (some films have terrible HD transfers)

    Ha Ha,It's in the post.
I figured some movies would transfer better than others but as i said earlier it can even vary from scene to scene.Trying to think of something specific at the moment. Some of the scenes in District 9 were a bit dodgy looking and also in The Hurt locker.

What model Bravia do you have?

Some of the scenes in district 9 are grainy.

Blu ray will show these up more then DVD. Sometimes, depending on the TV, might show up bad picture on a panning shot or something.

Have you tried a movie of constant good quality images like Dark Knight, Wall-e, planet earth or something.

Eh not too sure would have to check that when i get home but pretty sure it is one of the mid to low range ones, think it cost me about 1200 euros about a year ago.
And yes the Dark Knight runs beautifully on it,or at least it did the last time i watched it,I don't have Wall-E on blue ray but must pick it up as it's one of my favourite movies.

Yes it can but only if you are really close to the tv.
