    The 2010 all Ireland Intervarsity Judo Championships are being hosted by NUI Galway Judo Club. The competition is being held on Saturday 20th of February 2010 in the Kingfisher Sports complex on the University campus. It is NOT being held in UL as agreed during the captains meeting in 2009.

    So a little about the competition. The general format is;

    Team matches.
    Belt/Grades.
    Weights;
    Open tournament;

    Followed by prize giving and a meal in the Galway Bay Hotel. You don't need a team to come along to the intervarsities, if you're judo club is just you, or your not a part of one, you can still come once you're a student in a 3rd level institutions on the Island or Ireland. You don't need IJA membership either.

    So, anyone know what teams are going this year?

    Hi All,

    Hanshi Patrick McCarthy www.koryu-uchinadi.com will be back in Ireland in May 2010, details so far;
    http://www.irkrs-ireland.com/pb/wp_e7a79f09/wp_e7a79f09.html

    Galway
    Saturday May 8th

    Monaghan
    Sunday May 9th

    These seminars are fully open but pre booking is essential.

    Kata
    (Model Examples & Postures)

    Probably one of the most common reasons behind the popularity of the IRKRS these days is the genuine desire to truly understand the nature and application of traditional kata.

    If you practice karate and are interested in functional applications, if you wish to breathe new life into your kata/forms (all styles), then this seminar is for you!

    Interview with Hanshi McCarthy and his thoughts on kata.

    His youtube page with Koryu Uchinadi clips.

    Cheers

    Damien

    HanMooDo's second highest black belt Master Inseon Hwang and two Finnish black belts will be giving a Demonstration on Saturday the 30th of January in Cumman Iosef's main hall at 2pm (entry is free).

    These types of demonstrations are often held in Finland before a new beginners class starts to show people who might be interested in taking up HanMooDo different aspects it. The practitioners will perform a number of different techniques/routines to try and give an overall view of the martial art.
