Go up north. Other than that the Apple site is about your best bet. You can also avail of the student discount or buy a refurbished model.

Can you get student discount in the shops? Or is it online only?

Only in the Apple Store. Which means online only for us in the republic. PC World etc won't give it.

I think the Belfast store was giving it to students from the south but stopped.

Ah lame would've gone up North if that was the case. Though I'd say I'd still say I'd save by travelling up.

There are some stores that can give student discount afaik, ehm check the website. They're higher up on the food chain than the usual resellers.

But, up north is still way cheaper. Saved 90 euro by going up north even without my student discount applying up there.

As far as I know, only the apple online education store gives the student discount. Shops do not.

UK may not be cheaper any more. The Apple Store has the mini listed at EUR549 for Ireland and £510 (EUR 577) for UK.

Just checked out misco.ie and an iMac is 225 more than the Apple store after VAT.

I got my mini from the States and saved a packet - might be worth a shot if you know someone coming over.

Just for the record. The following Apple Resellers are able to sell at Education pricing to Students.

The Mac Shop - Merrion Square
    Typetec - Dublin
    Tyrell - Dublin
    CompuB - Cork & Galway
    Galmac Computers -Galway
    Screenway - Galway
    Stream Solutions - Cork
    AT Mac - Cork

All these places can be a source to buy your Mac, They're local and Apple will still get their huge slice of the profits. but you'll be supporting a local business that has Real expertise for when you need it most.
