    Hey all,

Have purchased the relevant tapes to airtight my windows, doors etc and also had planned (on advice) to tape up the junction where my concrete 1st floor slab meets the walls on all external walls.....

Before Christmas, i also plastered all the external facing walls with this new (and company guaranteed ;)) Air Tight plaster....So I was waiting for this to dry out before taping the ceiling/slab junction....I am also holding up the metalling of the ceilings to get this done, so time calls....

Now with all the recent weather and mositure in the area, the drying out period I had planned as being over Christmas has been lost...

So my next thought(see link below) was to use Hilti Air Sealer to do
this ceiling/slab junction as it states it actually needs moisture to cure...See last page installation advice

    http://www.hilti.ie/data/editorials/-27411/CF812leaflet.pdf

Can anyone give me any thoughts on whether this is a good idea to keep things moving along?? All expert opinion welcome...

    thanks

Spray the joint with water before sealing
So go ahead and get a windolene bottle, fill it with water and gently spray the area you intend to seal, don't overdo the moisture, just a gentle mist.
Make sure any loose material or dust is removed from the area first.
The Hilti Airseal is the only foam product I would use, but it is pricey.
I'm still using my last tin of it sealing at front and back door....

PS, you do need the hilti foam gun to use it - so another expense.

    Hey gman2k,

thanks for the reply...So from your reply and what I have read, it seems this stuff will do as good if not better job than tape for the ceiling/slab junction???

have got a price per tube and for the Gun...Gun very expensive....!!

Can I ask did you use it at the particular junction I am intending using it on?
If so, did you also use a cement plaster finsih for airtightness? And did you apply the Hilti before or after the cement plaster coat?

Data sheet says to apply upto 75mm but that seems alot and I dont have that space to play with as the Air Tight plaster is already on upto ceiling level and I will need to apply an insulated board, so I cant have something that's standing proud of the wall really...So in my case it would be more like a bead than near 75mm.....!! ???

    What to do??

    thanks :D

I only used it at windows and door jambs, and a few other small penetrations, and these were generally taped over with siga tapes also.
Just fill up the gaps with the foam - be careful as you go.
Let the foam cure for a couple of days, then go along with a very sharp blade and trim back excess foam.
You could apply flexible sealant over this for extra protection or tapes.
