TKD Factions / Organisations ?

Recently decided to take up TKD and started to googled for a class in my area. I found several different websites for several different organisations with none of them referencing each other. I searched this forum and kind of gleaned half an answer from this thread.
Got another part of the puzzle from here.

I did TKD years ago for about a year. Got a green tag with Mr. Dalton in Tralee. We used to train upstairs in a hall across from the courthouse. Decided recently to get rid of the spare tire and do something fun.

So if anyone would please enlighten me as to whether all these orgs are legit and recognised by the ITF I would be much obliged. Or if you could tell me why they went seperate ways. It's like the split between the ITF and WTF has permeated throughout the whole thing.

    IUTF
    ITA
    INTA
    RITA
TKD.ie (it's a blank site and the page source say's it was created 2004)
ITU (seems to be WTF related)

    Thanks

Where abouts are you living if you go to the rita website it should have links to your nearest school and i think there a link to the inta site the rita is 100% recognised by the itf as it was the 1st organisation of taekwon-do brought to ireland by grand master rhee who also set up the ukta.

you best bet is to go for a rita school.

    Hi,

On the ITF side of things anyway (don't know wtf side), INTA, IUTF, ITA and RITA are all legit.

"Best bet is for RITA school" - I'd ingnore this quote! Just see which one of the above assocs has classes in your area and that will narrow it down. Then go to a few classes and see which one you enjoy the most / like the instructor / atmosphere etc.

They're all legit orgs, linked to different ITF associations - Jon may come along and explain the history and details of this...I don't have the energy! And it gets too confusing!
Try a few clubs near you and don't worry too much about assocs...the club is more important.

I'm INTA, have entered RITA comps, and trained in IUTF club...etc, so I'd worry more about the club and instructor etc than the assoc...

    All the best...
What location are you in btw?

    Hi there,
You could write a thesis on why there seem to be so many different TKD organisations out there. My honest advice to you would be not to worry which is which in terms of 'legitimacy' or who holds the direct line to the founder etc. The fact is they are all legit, and all have direct links to the founder of the ITF and Taekwon-Do and are all members of the ITF. The reason that there are different groups is a direct result from the international splitting of the ITF after Gen. Choi died.

What you really should be concerned about is which of these groups offer the best form of training, and guess what, they all do. So now that boils things down to, which is closest and which is cheapest and which class you most enjoy after you try some classes out.

The ITU are seperate again as they are affiliated to the WTF and are as equally good, only they practice a different system.

I would also ignore any comments that this organisation is better because it was the first organisation to be set up (1972) that historical reference is null and void when it comes to picking a club to train in.
As I said, the IUTF, RITA, INTA/ITA are all excellent organisations which provide great resources for their students.

TKD.ie used to be a website for a group called National Taekwon-Do Ireland which I was a founder member of :o - it no longer exists although I think one of the other lads involved teaches a class in Ringaskiddy Co. Cork.

Thanks very much for all the info.

I'm in North Kerry. I think I'll go along and try http://www.riordanstaekwondoschools.com/index.html
it's on in Listowel, just over the road from me.

I think Mr. Riordan used to train with Mr. Dalton in Tralee while I was there aswell. That was approx 8 or 10 years ago. He was definitely a blackbelt then, don't know what dan though.

The sparring used to be good craic and a fun way to exercise.

    Thanks again.
