Accountancy is based on professional qualifications so you'll have to start doing exams towards one or other of the awarding bodies. Look up the websites of acca, cima, aca etc.

Lots of places like BPP, Dit etc. offer courses covering the content of these exams.
If you have a degree you may get some exemptions.

If you're just looking to get an idea of accounting, rather than going towards getting a qualification you'd be as well off buying a book like accounting for dummies or something like that.

You seriously need to consider if you need an accountancy qualification because they are getting tougher to pass and less financially rewarding.

ACCA do a postgrad in Acc and Fin which is very good for an overall view of Finance.it is one year in duration. There are many engineers I know who have taken this course and it has been helpful to their career.

I graduated from Electronic Engineering... did the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting in DIT... it was grand. Now working for one of the Big 4, the one I'm in are looking to hire engineering and science graduates if that's the way you want to go...

I did arts in college and decided to become an accountant (long story...). Started from Prof 2 (aka CAP 1) with ICAI (aka CAI). Had no idea what a debit/credit or bookkeeping meant. The institute offers a lot of web based learning and the classes started from basics so together with self-study was able to keep on top. Also the training contact is a bliss- get to practice and apply the knowledge. They also pay your fees and salary!
If you are not interested in a 3.5 training contract and damn hard examinations, there are a lot of bookkeeping courses you can attend.

I took the ACCA DipFM at DBS last year to supplement technical and business roles in lieu of a full MBA and all that entails. Very satisfactory.
