Having rented for 7 months last year at €700 a month i filled in my rent 1 form to claim what i expected to be €400 back. However this morning the lovely collector general has lodged €8.57 into my account? Can anyone explain this for me? I worked full time from Jan to Sept and have been on a 3 day week since then if that has anything to do with? Any help appreciated.

Uhm, cant you not claim rent allowance if your rent is more than a certain amount stipulated for the area (point is its no more that 400ish in any area I think?) ? Just wondering how your getting it! What county are you in?

Im in Co Dublin. Anyone who pays over €2k in rent is entitled to €400 refund. Well so i thought until them lovely people in Revenue told me that because my job went to a 3 day week in August and i have claimed benefit since then it has practically cancelled out my €400 rent refund. Off to do Euromillions now

Is that after a certain period of time? say after youve left the accom? Just interested because ive been doing a bit of research on the whole rent allowance thing and it seems very vague in parts..a lot of grey areas.....

Thats a bit harsh..makes no sense really because theres people getting the full dole and rent allowance? the benefit should have nothing to do with the rent allowance refund like...

Thought it was a bit harsh myself and your right there's plenty getting full dole and their rent paid. I only stopped renting in August when my working hours were reduced.

Its nothing to do with how long i've left the accomodation. Your right its pretty vague in places alright but if you have paid over €2k you should get €400 back providing you've worked full time during the year. Hope this helps.

Rent Relief and Rent Allowance are two separate things - rent relief is tax credits which you apply to revenue for. Rent Allowance is a weekly payment your receive from your community welfare allowance.
I think your query is in relation to rent relief so I am moving this thread to taxation forum where you may get better advice.
