excel not letting me amend document all of a sudden? (urgent help needed)

hey guys, have reports to be sent out to work but an hour ago, delayed because of microsoft excel not letting me amend the cells all of a sudden, tried opening and amend an old file, tried opening the software and opening the doc that way, no joy any information would be greatly appreciated
