So who would you give the number one jersey to? The main contenders would be: Brendan Cummins, Davy Fitzgerald, Damien Fitzhenry and Donal Og Cusack. Each goalkeeper has a different style i.e. Cusack would be in my opinion the most solid of them all, especially over the last 8 years, but in terms of shot stopping there is very little between the other 3. In terms of puckouts you have the 2 fitzies and cummins in terms of length but Cusack is extremely accurate.
With the way hurling has evolved goalkeeping is a lot morn than simply stopping shots, so who gets your vote?

Cummins. Head and shoulders ahead in my view.

I am suprised there are more options than Damien Fitzhery ;)

Joe Quaid was unreal from about 94-97 but after that he seemed to loose his form and simply didnt stay performing at the highest level like the 4 I selected. He was some shot stopper during those years tho!

I think there have been more high quality goalkeepers in the last 10-15 years than at any stage, but even among them I think Cummins is the best I've ever seen.

His ability to make amazing saves has never dulled even though he's now pushing on and there's absolutely nothing wrong with his distribution.

I really like Damien Fitzhenry too but am always surprised that there are quite a few people out there who believe he's better than Cummins. I'm expecting a close vote on this one.

Nothing to do with losing his form! He retired from inter-county hurling in 1999 after falling out with the county board. He wasn't even picked in 1997, Albert Shanahan was in goals that year. Had he stayed on playing, he would now be talked about in the same way Cummins, Fitzgerald and Fitzhenry are. Between 94 and 99 he was as good as any keeper in the country and should be on the poll options.

I suppose if davy Fitz can get into the poll, the likes of Quaid should too:D

All counties would be blessed to have any of the 4 in goals.... For me it has to be Fitzhenry - he's been Wexfords best player for over a decade!

I went for Fitzhenry. Best shotstopper in the country over the past 10 years

I'm glad you say that in jest. I'm sure if there's a poll for worst keepers of the last 15 years, then Murray will be among the outstanding candidates. Still cringe when i think how he got an All Star two years ago, the mind boggles. Nicky Quaid should be the Limerick goalkeeper, he's wasted outfield for the intermediates/U-21s.

Brendan Cummins has been immense between the schticks for Tipperary. He should win this poll comfortably. And to think he was dropped by Babs Keating. There was more than performance going on there I fear.

I nearly voted for Fitzhenry but went for Cummins, poll is reflecting my view with those 2 being ahead atm.

Both unreal and athletic keepers. Some of the saves they have made are unreal.

I'm refusing to vote until the poll is altered to include Joe Quaid.
