Flying to Agadir, Morrocco in February 2010 for 7 days. Family of 2 adults, 2 teenagers. Is eating out good in Agadir in terms of choice, or should we book half-board in a hotel. Always like the variety available in different restraunts but haven't been to Agadir before. Is a trip to Marrakesh feasible - thinking of staying a night there. Anyone with direct experience of the place?

Few years since I've been to Agadir, but like Macc says, eating out was pretty decent, fairly cheap and plenty of choices. Marrakech is fairly handy to get to but it takes a few hours (maybe 4 or 5 with the odd stop). When I was a teenager I wouldn't have liked being put in a car for the day, but if your teenagers are a bit more cultured :) then I'd definitely recommend renting a car. There's lots of cool trips you can do from Agadir.

You should definitely go to Marrakech, and you should definitely spend a night there. It's great fun.

Thanks to chickey and cfitz for the advice. It would be great to experience some of the 'real' country while in a tourist resort and I think our teenagers would be 'up' for a trip to Marrakesh.

There are 2 ways to get to Marrakech, one is slightly further but an easy drive, the other is across the High Atlas mountains. The scenery is fantastic and there's a big Mosque that you can visit but it's a long winding drive on narrow roads with steep drops.

    Things to see in Marrakech:

Djemaa El Fna - Square in the medina full of food stalls and some local entertainment (don't miss it)
Koutoubia Mosque - You can see it from pretty much anywhere in Marrakech anyway
Jardin Majorelle - Nice relaxing gardens if you get tired of the hustle and bustle

Not too far north of Agadir there's a nice seaside town called Essaouira that's full of lovely winding streets. And on the way you might see goats walking along the branches of Argan trees, a strange sight.

    Enjoy!
