    Hi Guys

Whats the normal length of a guarantee for a rebuilt engine? cause i bought an 1999 astra which the timing belt had gone in before I bought it, they said they rebuilt the engine and gave me a three months guarantee on it , its now four months and the have being told the the head gasket is about to go after about 5000 miles. Thought it was a bit bad

    Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as a head gasket being about to go,it is either gone or its not.Is you car overheating, mixing oil and water????

Hi this is the OP. My mate was logged in and i posted under his account by mistake.

Yes its loosing water/coolant through the exhaust is what they told me. Its back with the guy i bought it getting fixed. Just wondering should there be more of a milage guarantee with a rebuilt engine.

Warrenty would normaly stand for 12 months but only if over hauled by a professional and you should have a receipt of work carried out!

Thanks thats what I thought but I got no recept for the work he said was done on it, I was under the impression he was a pretty alright guy and he swore blind on the work. I was a bit scepitical about it at firist when I heard that the timing belt had gone and he got the engine rebuilt. just hope he is not going to try and charge me for the work being done on it now.

Have you asked this person to mend the car? If so, has he told you the cost?

My understanding is that the garage is repairing the car now without the question of money having been discussed. That would make me hopeful that they're doing the work FOC.

12 months would be pretty normal on a recon engine.
