    Hi

I have been working from August 2008 till present.I recently have gotten ill and was advised by doctor that i should consider switching jobs or speaking to my manager regarding switching working hours/shifts because it has started to affect my general well being/mental health

My question is if i decide to quit, would i qualify for some kind of benefits while im looking for other suitable employement..Thanks

If your doctor doesn't think you are fit for work you can claim illness benefit. Otherwise, it would be Jobseeker's Allowance/Benefit. See the FAQ Sticky at the top of the forum on how you would qualify.

Have you tried approaching your employer to see if they will accomodate you in reduced hours etc. There is strict RSI conditions to entitlement to IB.

Have a look on the departments website for the operational guidelines for IB.

If you hand in your notice, beware that if you do apply for Jobseekers there could be a nine week disqualification period if the deciding officer forms the opinion that you left employment without good reason. For that reason you'd be best to approach the employer to see how they might accommodate you in relation to your needs.

my wife was on disability benefit for 3-4 years...she was then deemed fit for work and went on jobseekers allowance until 2 yrs ago when she 'ran out of credits'.she has been signing for credits now for about a year and a half (with no welfare income).please explain if she can resume jobseekers allowance in the near future ... what are the relevant guidelines.
