Apple eMac & UPC BB

Note: Mods please feel free to move to Broadband or otherwise if you reckon.

A buddy has just bought a computer. It's a second hand Apple eMac circa 2003.

He has just signed up for UPC/Chorus and had the techie around to install the modem etc.

Now he isn't yet connected and the guy installing it wasn't sure how to set it up on his Mac. He just left him a wireless USB key.

Should the wireless USB be enough? (As opposed to an internal wireless card or otherwise). There is a CD with the wireless USB but from what he says on the phone it isn't installing anything - just opening a manual - so maybe the driver is all that is needed?

He says that Network status offers 3 choices: Built-in ethernet (says cable not plugged in), internal modem (not set up) or VPN.

He probably has 128Mb RAM - is this enough? Not too clued into Macs here I'm afraid.

    Many thanks

PS. What is this Airport I have read about.

Airport is a mac's name for WiFi...

If it's an eMac with 128MB Ram chances are that even if the wireless USB dongle was mac compatible it's very unlikely that drivers will exist for his version of OS X (I'm guessing at the very latest 10.3). His best option is to plug the emac directly into the router using an ethernet cable, although he's gonna struggle with a lot of web pages on that machine.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Yep he's on OSX 10.3.9.

Would he need a network card for that machine would you think for the cable?
