    any help here greatly appreciated.

almost the same price at the mo, barely a tenner in it. i know the sony is a lot older , but gets good reviews and owners are well pleased, the denon won the what hifi award 2009, must be a beast.

i was looking to hook up the new philips 9000 series, the slim ps3 250gig, wii, free to air sat, and an i pod possibly.

will be running 7 of the creative 50w speakers from a gigaworks s750 system and i guess will need a new sub too? the one i have probably not going to work as its a passive i think, goodmans 200w from a 5.1 system years old now. would i need an active sub? for either amp anyway?

any help would be great, thanks

Are you planning to keep these speakers or upgrade later? If you planning on upgrading later, see on avforums what speakers they are generally paired each amp with and which "package" you'd prefer.

Are the speakers bright? Generally bright speakers might suit the Denon better than the Sony but I can't speak for these exact models as I haven't heard them.

well, for the time being, ill use these speakers, they are pretty savage, titanium tweeters and are thx certified, actually 70 w on their website. will check the manual later anyway for their full specs.

i will need a new sub anyway if i do purchase one of those amps, as they require an active sub, so more spending i guess.

and what does the bright refer to exactly?

Speakers and amps are often described as "bright" or "warm"

Bright means they have a sharper more aggressive treble sound; warm means they have a softer treble sound, perhaps with less detail.
Bright is not necessarily bad but overly bright (grating) or overly warm (dull) can be, so you don't want to match a very bright speaker with a very bright amp or a very warm speaker with a very warm amp. Traditionally, Denon amps would be generally described as warm.

Some speakers are bright out of the box, but get warmer with age.

The Denon range all come with Audyssey MultEQ which creates an EQ profile to correct for poor room acoustics. This is, by far, the most significant reason to get a Denon IMO.

The only bad thing are the manuals. Luckily there is this: Denon to English Dictionary :)
