Thinking of having a male and female guitarist and flautist who can both sing. Any ideas for songs / music.
I'd like a good few contemporary songs with a few hymns maybe.
What are people having at all the different parts of the ceremony

hi there, as for church music don't talk to me. i had a european world champion karaoke singer booked to sing at mine as well as a harpist since the end of july last 2009 and they rang me last week to cancel as they both have family weddings now that they didn't know about until christmas... i thought first come first serve and they are running a business after all. i'm absolutely devastated. i'm back to square one again..:(:(:(

Just in terms of contemporary church music, make sure you run it by your priest/pastor/reverend as some won't allow anything non-traditional.

Jukebox, have a chat with your musicians and see what they can do already or what they suggest.

sparkle 1, that's terrible and so unprofessional! I hope they haven't left you in the lurch too close to your wedding!

sparkle 1 & falvelator where are you based? I'm in the Dublin region and play Celtic harp (not all Irish music though) so feel free to pm me if you're interested.

    Hi there Flavalator,
For church music suitable for a wedding ceremony, I would definetely recommend having a singer as it is the singer that stands out in most people's minds. I'm a violinist, and have played at weddings in a string quartet, trio and violin duo. To be quite honest, i feel having a singer along with one/two instrumentalists is lovely. Altough, some couples do like a bigger group...
If your still looking for musicians, just send me a pm and i'll put you in touch with some! Good Luck!

This is very important, as the padre could pull the plug at the last minute.

Myself and the girlfriend are getting married too, she really wants a string quartet for the church, anybody know the average cost for this, we are getting married in Cork.

I agree to check the music with your priest as some are stricter than others about what is ok.
I played Tabhair Dom do Lamh as an entrance - flute with guitar accompaniment, it's very nice; and what a wonderful world as the exit song - sung with piano accomp (but guitar could do the piano part)
If you look on different performers websites usually they have suggestions for various parts of the ceremony, and theyre usually open to adjusting the list to add in your suggestions.
Have you already booked the performers?

I've booked a similar set for my wedding though the girl doesnt sing i dont think. They are amazing!!
Theyre Dublin-based but travel sometimes (I saw them first at a wedding in Mayo - so brilliant! One woman there told me she immediately tried to book them for her sister's wedding despite her sister already having someone booked, she reckoned they were that much better!!) if you're interested I can give you contact details (just PM me). We havent settled on which songs for definite but I was thinking....
All you need is love or Arrival of the Queen of Sheeba - sung or on flute and guitar for my entrance, havent decided which yet
maybe Pie Jesu at the candle lighting
for communion Panis Angelicus and Gabriel's Oboe (on flute or else the vocal version Nella Fantasia) and a 3rd one incase it takes that long - I like Black is the Colour or Gallileo by Declan O'Rourke.
For the exit I was thinking O'Carolan's Concerto, Oh Happy Day or Pachebel's Canon or something lively, maybe a pop song either.
Other pieces I like, could be in song or instrumentals,
include Chriost Ag Siol, Ave Maria, Se (from Cinema Paradiso), Air from Water Music, Amazing Grace, Air on the G String, The Prayer, and Trumpet Voluntary to name but a few. They could go at the registry signing or recessional and I'll prob put a psalm in between the readings too.

just be careful to check with your priest or celebrant first cause some are pretty strict about what music they allow (some churches only allow religious music and civil ceremonies only allow non-religious music), our priest is fairly laid back about it so we're lucky.

Hope that gives you some ideas! :)

I think it's usually 200-250 per performer in a group for the church part (so that would be 800-1000) a group just starting out or students might charge less though - and some groups will give you a discount if youre booking them for the church and drinks reception afterward.
If youre considering a soloist though you would be looking at around 300-500 for them and 200/250 for the accompanist, again Ive found some give discounts for church and drinks reception.
You will probably have to pay more if your musicians have to travel far though.
I don't know any quartets from that area but I'd know of a classical guitarist in cork if you'd be interested, i can pass you on her details if you PM me. She's excellent!

I was at a lovely wedding ceremony over the summer. What really made the wedding stand out was music. The two musicians were extremely impressive but didn't overshadow the beautiful bride.I went to speak to the musicians afterwards and one of them told me that the male singer and guitarist was operatically trained but could sing any genre. The girl that I chatted to was a flautist and a pianist. What a wonderful wealth of talent between them.If anyone would like to contact them I have their mobile number.

Getting married this summer and have no musicians yet for the church....
Could you send me on their details too?
    Thanks

Hi, Looking for a soloist classical flautist possibly or similar for Music during a hotel civil ceremony in late Sept 2011 (north Dublin). We're undecide and open to any suggestions, , mainly looking for filler (terrible expression sorry ) music for Bride entrance / candle lighting / end of ceremony . We're agreed that a quartet would be a bit much . All replies welcome.
