The lacquer on my metallic car is peeling off under the rear window only. There is about 1 cm below the window and about 20 cm along.
The car is an 2005 year model, could it be repaired under warrranty.
If not then is it an easy repair. It is not that noticeable unless you look closely at it.

it's peeling bacause it was repaired previously.

in 99% of cases that's the reason anyhow.

It is also peeling around the filler flap which is directly under the bodywork where the other lacquer is peeling off. The flap though is plastic so I don't think it is a repair, the bodywork elsewhere is as new.
That is why it seems like a problem when it was originally painted.

In addition to the standard warranty, some manufacturers have 2 additional warranties. One for corrosion, and the other for paint defects. BMW give a 6 year paint defect warranty, and a 12 year anti rust warranty. Would be worth your while to see if your car has that, however, Colm may be correct - usually flaking lacquer is a result of a repair.

When a panel is been repainted which includes a fuel filler flap, everything has to be resprayed at the same time (together, in the same back and forth strokes) for colour matching. They cannot take a fuel filler cap off and paint it separately. So what happens is the edges of fuel filler flaps get a very thin coat of paint and an even thinner coat of clear. The paint spray cannot go around the corners that well, so the edge where old meets new is somewhat exposed to the elements (from behind) are susceptible to peeling. The same happens if a panel is resprayed without the windows (glass and rubber seals) fully removed. The panel / leading edges are taped up instead with masking tape (to avoid overspray) and if you lift the rubber seal afterwards you can see the joining once more of old paint and new. The rubber seal protects the joining up to a point but frequent washing, especially with a jet washand exposure to the elements will end up lifting the clearcoat eventually, so it starts to flake off.

Standard 2 to 3 year paint warranties are for problems with paintwork from the outside inwards (paint problem). Longer term corrosion ones are for problems which develop from the inside and manifest themselves outwards (metal/bodywork problem).
