Exam failure insurance

Hi, I am heading out on a J1 this summer and have recently found out about a friends wedding that will take place while I am away. I have taken out the exam failure insurance as a precaution but have no intention of needing to use it as I hope to pass all my exams. Anyway I was just thinking would it be possible to use the free flight home and back if I claimed I had to repeat an exam? I am assuming it would be unlikely as they probably check with the college or require some clarification that you have failed. Just a thought.

Any insurance company will look for proof when you make a claim.

Making false claims is also legally dodgy. I wouldn't recommend it, or discussing it here :)

Yeah I appreciate that. Now that I've read how the exam failure insurance works, it is actually done through an insurance company and must be claimed so no I wouldn't go messing around with this. I just thought it might be done through the travel rep and since I had paid for insurance I thought it might be possible to use it to come home and just say it was for an exam. Anyway was just a thought. Will just have to do my best to save enough money to fly home and back.

You have to show proof from the college that you failed an exam anyway. Flight changes are usually only between 100 and 150 euro. Depending on where you're flying from!

Yeah but I'd have to fly back out too after the wedding so it would be another return flight needed each way. Am assuming during the summer this would be about €500.

Oh wow yeah, that's impossible unless you pay for it. I missed a wedding in Rome a few years ago because of a J-1, the best you can do is try your hardest to get a job and then just pay for the flights. FYI, you have to clear it with SEVIS and the visa company that you're leaving the country and re-entering!
