Unpaid Leave

I was to do an 8 hour shift last Saturday but due to the drastic weather and conditions of the roads in my area, I didnt make it in. When I got into work today I noticed that the scheduling department had put me down for 8 hours 'emergency' holidays on Saturday!

I would have preferred to take Saturday as unpaid and I think its abit off for them to deduct hours from my holiday balance due to these circumstances. I just want to know peoples opinions on this. Am i within my rights to request my holiday hours be restored and to take it as unpaid leave?
Unpaid leave is pretty common in my workplace and it is regularly given to workers who have either ran out their holiday balances and need a day off here or there, or those who need to add more time to a week long holiday for example. The company's policy is if youve used up your holiday quota and the business isnt impacted then you can request unpaid leave. In this case though it was an act of god and I certainly didnt have a holiday saturday!

Yes I'd say it's worth asking, but payroll is probably processed by now so you'd have to ask 1st thing tomorrow.

They prob thought they were being nice to you by paying you.

you can always request one of your holidays as unpaid instead. What's the difference?
