Time to give the car a good clean now that the 'big freeze' is over (in parts!).

The salt/grit from the icy roads will lead to corrosion on the underside/sills/arches etc. if it is not washed away ASAP.

If I was to wash mine in my driveway I'd expect Torvill & Dean to turn up, the cold snap ain't over for all just yet.

Probably not the best idea given the current shortage of water.Washing a car seems a bit much when you see families queuing for water on the news.

Last time the water was out in Cork I came home and went to garage for a car wash not thinking...what she didn't say to me...

I haven't washed either of mine since December 8th! Between a back injury, flooding, water shortages, snow, ice & work it just didn't get done.
I normally religiously wash it once a week with a proper detail once a month. It is killing me to leave the wheels covered in brake dust for that long. Here's hoping the weekend leaves the situation look a little better.

I thought cars these days had good anti-corrosion covered...?

Well-built modern cars will have corrosion resistant coating/paint on all of the 'unpainted' surfaces. That said, it only takes a small scratch/chip in the coating to allow rot to start. Bottom line is that newer cars will hold up much better, but they're not invincible, and care will help.

If and when you wash the underside, take care not to use a really high pressure washer. Too high pressure will crack and damage the protective coating, opening cavities for the salt to creep in, making things worse instead of better.

A gentle flushing is the way to go.
